When you land at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, there are four main ways to reach your accommodation: taxi, bus, local train or private transfer. None of them is "the best" for everyone; it depends on your destination, how many of you are travelling, your luggage and your arrival time. In this guide we explain when each one makes sense.
Taxi from Malaga airport
The taxi rank is just outside arrivals at Terminal 3. Its big advantage is that there's no need to book. The downsides: in high season the queues can be long, the price depends on the meter (traffic, plus airport, night-time and bank holiday surcharges) and, if there are more than four of you or you have lots of luggage, you'll have to split up across several vehicles.
Bus and local train
These are the cheapest options for solo travellers with little luggage. The C1 local train links the airport with central Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, and there are bus routes to Málaga and Marbella. In return, you have to fit in with timetables, carry your own cases, change for many destinations (Nerja, Estepona, Ronda…) and there's no service in the early hours.
Private transfer
A transfer is a private journey booked in advance at a fixed price per vehicle. Your driver tracks your flight, meets you with a sign bearing your name and takes you directly to the door of your accommodation. It's the most comfortable and predictable option, especially if:
- You're travelling as a family or group (the price is per vehicle, not per person).
- You arrive late at night or in the early hours.
- Your destination is more than 30 minutes away or poorly served by public transport.
- You have young children and need child seats.
- You have bulky luggage: golf clubs, bikes, skis or pushchairs.
- You want to know the exact price before you travel.

Conclusion
If you're travelling alone, with little luggage, to central Málaga or Torremolinos during the day, the train is hard to beat on price. In almost every other case — families, groups, destinations such as Marbella, Nerja or Ronda, late-night arrivals or simply wanting to start your holiday stress-free — a private transfer offers the best balance of comfort, safety and price.
